Governors

Dear Parent/Guardian

Whether you have deliberately chosen Park Primary School for your child or they are attending because you are in our catchment area, I would like to welcome you and your child to the school. I know that you will find it a very friendly and caring school where your child will be helped to reach their full potential.

The governing body is made up of 9 people from a variety of backgrounds and with different skills, from parents, the local community and staff.

The Governing body is responsible for ensuring that the school runs in a safe and responsible way, meeting its legal requirements and providing consistently high standards of teaching which allow your child to make good progress in learning and achieve the goals expected of them.

Every member of the Governing body is interested in all aspects of the school and so the whole Governing Body meets each half term to oversee the running of the school. This includes receiving reports from staff, questioning staff members present, affirming what we see as good or outstanding and challenging where we see areas for improvement. Governors also visit the school on a regularly basis so that they can see what is happening on a day to day basis.

We are pleased that parents, guardians and children consistently say how happy they are with the school but should you have any questions or concerns these should firstly be addressed to the appropriate staff member in the school. Should you feel that there is a need to contact the Governors then this can be done in writing via the school.

On behalf of the Governors may I wish your child every success and happiness at Park.

    Andy West

I have lived in Doncaster for 28 years and worked in Wheatley since 2000 as Minster of the Baptist Church. I have been a governor at Park for most of that time and am so pleased to see how the school is now really starting to reach its potential. I am proud to support a dedicated team of staff and a wonderfully enthusiastic group of children.

I enjoy cycling and riding my motorbike, have three grown up children and have been married to my wife, Tracy for 27 years. I also run my own business and love living in Doncaster and adopting Yorkshire as my home county.

I have recently joined the Board of Governors and now work alongside another governor as Joint Vice Chair. I have worked with the school since March 2009 providing support and guidance and assisting the school with their recruitment requirements. Having worked in the education sector for almost 9 years, I was delighted to be asked to be a governor at the school and I thoroughly enjoy being able to support the school in anyway that I can, sharing the schools vision, ethos and strategic direction. I am confident that working alongside our Head Teacher and the other governors we can continue to provide a high level of education at our school and give every child the maximum opportunity to fulfil their potential.

My real name is Martin Podmore but I am generally known as 'Pod' or 'Mr Pod' at the school. My family and I moved up from near London in 2013 to live and serve in the Wheatley Park community. I am employed by Wheatley Park Baptist Church as their 'Eden team leader'. This means I am part of a small team devoted to trying to be a blessing to this community.

As soon as we arrived it was very clear to us that Park Primary School was a very important place for the wellbeing of the whole local community. This belief has grown much stronger over the last four years.

I am a community governor and also have responsibility for SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities). My passion to prioritise people who are on the margins, overlooked and disadvantaged.

I come into the school a lot (assemblies are so much fun!) and I love the place and people!

I hope to be a positive influence in the school for years to come.

I have recently joined the Board of Governors as a teacher of the school.

I have been a teacher at Park Primary for 11 years and see my role as governor as being able to speak for the teachers of the school as well as getting a different insight as to how decisions are made within the school. I love working at Park Primary and want to support the school as much as I can.

I have two boys of my own, both attending primary school, and so being involved in a governing body lets me see how a school is run.

The recent changes with Ofsted and the role of the governors brings with it many challenges and responsibilities. However, I am confident that while working alongside our head teacher, Chair of Governors and the other governors I can continue to be part of a team that provides a high quality level of education for this school - as well as a safe place that your children enjoy going to.

We have a great community spirit at Park and I am looking forward to being more involved in this and looking towards a bright future.
